In every generation, leadership defines destiny. What Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, is doing in Ogun State today is not just governance — it is generational investment. His recent appointments, which saw an unprecedented number of young and vibrant individuals brought into government, mark a bold and visionary statement: the future of Ogun State belongs to its young people.

For decades, Nigerian youths have clamored for inclusion in governance — not merely as foot soldiers during elections, but as partners in policy, development, and innovation. Governor Abiodun has listened, and he has acted. His leadership recognizes that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are partners of today.

By bringing more youths into critical roles across various sectors of governance, the Governor is not only expanding participation — he is building a bridge between experience and energy, between institutional knowledge and innovation. This inclusiveness is what defines visionary leadership.

This forward-looking approach mirrors the national philosophy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose government has continued to emphasize competence, innovation, and generational renewal. The President’s belief in talent over title and his long record of nurturing leaders have inspired a nationwide shift — from recycling the old to empowering the bold.

We must therefore commend both the President and the Governor for not only recognizing the potential of Nigeria’s youth but also entrusting them with responsibility. Leadership is not inherited; it is cultivated through exposure, mentorship, and trust. Today, that trust is being extended to a new generation of Nigerians who are eager to prove that we can govern with integrity, serve with compassion, and innovate for the greater good.

But this opportunity also comes with responsibility. To the young people appointed into government, this is not a time to celebrate titles — it is a call to service. We must justify the confidence reposed in us by translating fresh ideas into tangible results. We must prove that competence, not age, defines capacity.

To other youths watching from the sidelines — get involved. The Nigeria of our dreams will not be shaped by cynicism or apathy, but by courage, participation, and collaboration. Let us engage our leaders constructively, join political parties, volunteer in civic initiatives, and contribute our quota wherever we find ourselves.

Governor Abiodun and President Tinubu have shown that youth inclusion is not a slogan — it is a strategy for progress. As one of the beneficiaries of this renewed trust, I see firsthand the difference it makes when leaders believe in the potential of the next generation.

The baton is being passed — not by default, but by deliberate design. The question before us is simple: will we run with it?
