Ogun to Commission 250-Bed Medical Center of Excellence in December.

The Ogun State Government has announced that the newly renovated Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence, a 250-bed ultra-modern hospital located in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, will be commissioned in December 2025.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during an inspection tour of the facility, explaining that the project—initiated but left uncompleted by the previous administration—has now reached an advanced stage of completion.

The governor revealed that the hospital will be managed by the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence, which is in partnership with King’s College Hospital, London. He said the Ogun facility will serve as a “spoke” of the Abuja center, providing first-class medical services to residents of the state and neighboring regions.

“We are pleased with the progress so far. The exterior looks impressive, landscaping has started, and the entrance canopy, gate, and oxygen systems are already in place. I have directed that work be fast-tracked so operations can begin within the next few weeks.

By God’s grace, this hospital will be commissioned in December as one of our Christmas gifts to the good people of Ogun State,” Abiodun stated.

He noted that the project initially had several structural, civil, and electrical deficiencies, which have now been addressed through collaboration with Healthshare Integrated Solutions, the company handling the completion and management of the facility.

Governor Abiodun added that the new hospital will help reduce medical tourism and minimize the need for referrals to Lagos and other states.

“We know how much Nigerians spend on medical tourism and how often our people are referred to hospitals outside the state. With this facility in operation, Ogun will become a preferred destination for quality healthcare,” he said.

The governor explained that the state government, through its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) office, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Healthshare Services Limited to ensure the hospital is run efficiently and sustainably.

Speaking on the project’s progress, the Project Manager, Dr. Frank Etang of Healthshare Integrated Solutions, assured that the team would meet the December commissioning target.

“We are on schedule. The basement, ground floor, radiology, laboratory, and consulting rooms are ready, while work is ongoing on the first floor, which includes the theatre, ICU, and wards,” he said.

Upon completion, the Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence is expected to serve as a major referral hospital, offering world-class medical services and boosting the state’s healthcare capacity.
